Shadow Valley Raceway

Yup, we were there again this year. It's a pretty neat event, and way more fun when you are on the inside. I don't have a lot of pictures, but here's a little collage:

ouch!

This is what happens when you wear cheap flip flops, the weather produces a short torrential down pour type of rain shower and you are carrying a lot of stuff:Honestly, I am disappointed that the pictures don't show the color better, neither one of these is that accurate. Let's just say that while this looks bad, this was within 12 hours of when I fell down the slick deck stairs. And, just to make sure you aren't wondering if that is in some crazy or inappropriate place, it's the back of my hip, right about where my pants would sit.
It got much blacker yet. I don't think I've ever had such a wicked goose egg either. My massage therapist worked on it a few times and finally recommended physio because she couldn't get it to loosen up (and she was using her elbow!)

red river ex

I really wish I had photos to show you of this event, but alas the photos have been corrupted by my beloved iMac, which just couldn't handle copying photos off of a PC external hard drive. Frustrating. Have since managed to resolve the issue, but it was disappointing to say the very least.
This year we went to the Red River Ex, which is something that has been on my list of "things to do while I live in Winnipeg" for a very long time. It's basically the same thing as the PNE. Although I think the PNE is classier (or could it be that I'm getting older and more sensitive to the unbearably immodest dress that many were wearing, as well as just a general sense of throwing money out the window).
Either way, we managed to have some fun. Michael and I had a coupon so our entrance fees and rides were less expensive. We did take in a few rides, but patience wore thin as we had to wait in long line ups. We also kept getting stuck in line next to a guy in a wife beater shirt, with a naked woman tattooed on his arm, in a lot of detail, and planted just so that the breast was constantly stretching over his bulging biceps. I am all for artistic expression and I happen to think the human form is quite beautiful, after all, God created it. I just don't understand this guy's tattoo, and I don't understand how any female would be ok hanging off an arm that had such a picture on it. Am I missing something?
Aside from rides, we just enjoyed fair food. Delicious bison burgers, an elephant ear/beaver tail. Watching the tiger show with our friends Karl & Bea, checking out the butterfly house.
I've crossed it off my list, and I'm happy for that, but I don't think I'll be making it an annual must do event.

portage air show

once again, a photoless post, due to mean computer chewing up and spitting out my photos, rendering them corrupted files that can no longer be opened. sigh.
I'm not a huge airshow fan, but Michael is more of one than I am. This year we had a special reason to go. My Uncle Rudy & Aunt Trudy were going to be there. They own & operate a flight simulator. We got to spend some time visiting with them while they operated their ride. Michael took in some of the show.
All in all a good day, despite less than stellar weather.

take me out to the ball game...

I've never been to a live baseball game before! Winnipeg has a beautiful diamond that is right in the heart of downtown. I was given free tickets through work. Michael wasn't able to come because he was working in the field, so I brought my friend Beatrice instead.
I absolutely love the atmosphere at a baseball game. This particular night was themed as prom night, so all the ushers were dressed up to go to prom. It probably helped that the first game I ever went to was one that kept you on the edge of your seat the whole game, and carried into 13 innings because it kept tying up.
If you are wondering, the lovely faces in the photo are some of my coworkers and their significant others.

softball & cactus flower

Michael got called to sub in for the Soul Softball team this summer once or twice. This time I came to watch. I didn't really end up with any great pictures, but here's a token photo. On our honeymoon in Arizona I bought this little cactus pot to commemorate our trip. Well, it is still surviving (although I have lost one cactus) and occasionally when I neglect it just the right amount and then water it, it produces a lovely flower (I think this is the 4th one).Pretty amazing, eh? I kind of hope this thing lasts a long time, wouldn't it be cool if I still had it when we celebrated being married 25 years?
